Modular Buildings
Modular structures are constructed in-house with final assembly occurring on-site, where the modules are stacked and connected together. Modular construction is a process in which a building is constructed off-site, under controlled factory conditions, using the same codes and standards as conventionally built facilities – but in lesser time. Buildings are produced in “modules” that when put together on site, reflect the identical design specifications and intent of the most sophisticated site- built facility – without compromise.
Let’s have a look at the advantages of Modular buildings:
Greener: The factory-controlled process generates lesser wastage, eradicates site disturbances and allows for tighter tolerances.
Faster: Construction of modular buildings in factory occurs simultaneously with assembling at site, allowing projects to be completed in half the time of traditional construction.
Smarter: Modular buildings are built with the same materials and to the same standards as conventional construction methodology.
Modular Buildings are built with hollow steel sections and cast steel connectors, then joined with bolts to create complete buildings. Trends for affordable housing with low construction cost & faster completion is picking in India. Many cities are facing underground water shortage due to concrete based construction. So, steel based construction should be promoted. Modular Building using structural steel will be the future construction methodology.
Benefits of using steel in Modular Building:
Fast Project Completion: Project duration significantly reduces when structural steel is used in construction of Modular building.
Lower Project Cost: Structural steel reduces the project cost and generates faster revenue.
Minimal Wastage: Use of structural steel reduces wastage while construction. The off-site fabrication process results in less material waste than conventional site-built construction.
Environmental Friendly: Conventional construction methodology causes severe pollution & loss of ground water.
Flexibility in Design: Use of structural steel in Modular Building gives flexibility to create unique structures.
Longer Span: Structural steel allows increased spacing between structural members and greater spans can be achieved.
Recyclable: Structural steel can be recycled indefinitely.
APL Apollo launched Apollo Column for Modular Building Construction using hollow steel section. Use of Apollo Column reduces the overall project cost as compared to traditional construction methodology.
